ASA Savings and Loans Limited has commissioned a new mechanized borehole facility equipped with standpipes at the Suhum Islamic Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region. The project was undertaken as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program to address a critical infrastructure gap at the all-girls institution. By providing a reliable source of clean water on campus, the initiative seeks to resolve the daily struggles students faced in accessing water for their personal and domestic needs.
During the handover ceremony, Gwen Muteiwa, the Chief Executive Officer of ASA Savings and Loans, emphasized that the provision of water is essential for creating a conducive learning environment. She urged the students to maintain a spirit of camaraderie and mutual support in their academic journeys. In response, Rahmah Dasmani, the school’s Assistant Headmistress, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, acknowledging that while the borehole is a significant relief, the school still grapples with other facility shortages that require further intervention from stakeholders.
The impact of the water scarcity on the student experience was further detailed by the Head Prefect, Falilatu Akparibo Abdullai. She noted that the lack of a consistent water supply had previously compromised both punctuality for classes and general cleanliness across the school premises. With the installation of the mechanized system, the students are now better positioned to manage their time and hygiene effectively. The student leadership has pledged to take full responsibility for the upkeep of the new facility to ensure it serves future generations of students at Suhum Islamic Girls.
