Art Africa Gallery has officially launched its fourth Colour Cure exhibition, titled "She Carries the Market," in Accra. This latest iteration of the gallery's flagship series seeks to shine a spotlight on the diverse responsibilities of women while simultaneously raising awareness for breast cancer. The exhibition, which opened on October 24, 2026, serves as a platform to honour the resilience and multifaceted roles women play in Ghanaian society.
The exhibition features a curated selection of works from seven female artists alongside documentary photographer Ask Photos. Co-curator Henry Kwaku Duah explained that the theme was deeply inspired by the bustling atmosphere of the Makola Market. He noted that the title, "She Carries the Market," reflects the symbolic and literal weight women shoulder as they balance economic productivity with familial and social obligations. The artworks on display aim to amplify these personal stories, transforming the daily struggles and triumphs of ordinary women into compelling visual narratives.
Beyond its artistic merit, "She Carries the Market" carries a significant social mission. In line with the Colour Cure series' tradition, proceeds from the sale of the featured artworks will be donated to support breast cancer awareness initiatives. This integration of fine art and public health advocacy highlights the gallery's commitment to social responsibility and community welfare. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open to the public until November 23, 2026, providing visitors with a month-long opportunity to engage with these themes of womanhood and health.
