Anthony Baffoe, the former Ghana international and current General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), has officially withdrawn from the five-member committee tasked with finding a new head coach for the Black Stars. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed the development, noting that Baffoe's decision was communicated to the Executive Council by the committee's chairman, Fred Pappoe, during a meeting last Thursday. This search was initiated following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
While the GFA has not provided specific reasons for Baffoe's exit, the committee continues its work with its remaining members. These include former national team captain Stephen Appiah, legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu, and technical expert Faisal Chibsah. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum indicated that the governing body remains focused on its objective of securing a permanent leader for the senior national team, despite the change in the committee's composition.
In the interim, the committee has overseen the appointment of Kim Lars Björkegren as temporary manager to lead the Black Stars through their immediate fixtures. Björkegren will be supported by assistant coaches Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram. This temporary technical team will manage the upcoming home-and-away series against Somalia, with matches scheduled for November 11 and November 15. The GFA aims to have a substantive head coach finalized and in place by the end of the month.
The withdrawal of Baffoe comes at a significant time, as the former defender has recently hinted at a potential future interest in the GFA presidency. For now, the focus of the selection panel remains on vetting candidates to replace Queiroz and restoring the team's competitive momentum. The incoming permanent manager will be expected to take over full responsibilities following the November international break as the Black Stars look toward future qualification campaigns.
