Angelina Stickings, a 12-year-old survivor of a devastating road accident on the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch, is appealing for public assistance to walk again after losing both legs in the tragedy. The incident, which occurred on August 13, 2026, involved a multi-vehicle chain collision that claimed 12 lives, including that of Angelina’s father. Currently receiving treatment at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, the young girl faces a long and difficult road to recovery while nursing life-altering injuries that have fundamentally upended her life and education.
The crash was reportedly triggered by a tricycle rider, leading to a massive collision that caused widespread carnage. Angelina’s brother, John, has highlighted the immense financial burden the family has faced since the accident, estimating that medical expenses and related costs have already reached approximately GH₵200 million. This staggering figure reflects the intensive care required for Angelina's complex injuries and the mounting debt the family faces. Despite the physical and emotional trauma of losing her father and her mobility, Angelina remains determined to return to school and continue her education.
To achieve this goal, the family is urgently seeking help from the public and corporate organizations to fund the acquisition of prosthetic limbs and provide for her ongoing medical needs. The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has confirmed that police investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. Beyond the legal proceedings, the NRSA is working toward providing financial and psychological support to Angelina and other survivors of the accident to help them navigate the aftermath of the trauma.
This tragic case underscores the recurring issue of road safety in Ghana and the devastating impact of accidents on major highways. As Angelina fights to reclaim her future, her story serves as a somber reminder of the human cost of road negligence. Contributions toward her medical fund are seen as vital steps in helping a young survivor regain her independence, while road safety advocates continue to call for tighter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
