The suspended Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has postponed his scheduled appearance before the Parliament of Ghana. This decision is linked to an active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding visa facilitation arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His legal representatives informed the parliamentary committee that the postponement is necessary to ensure the integrity of the ongoing police probe.
According to his legal team, participating in a public inquiry at this specific moment could potentially compromise the CID's investigation. They argued that it is standard legal practice to prioritize law enforcement inquiries before administrative hearings on the same matter. The legal team also clarified that the current investigative process does not imply any guilt or wrongdoing by Mr. Ampofo Ankrah, who remains on suspension while the state probes the visa arrangements for the upcoming global tournament.
Mr. Ampofo Ankrah is reportedly cooperating fully with the CID and has pledged to provide all necessary assistance to the authorities. Once the suspension is resolved and the criminal investigation has reached a stage where a public testimony would not interfere with legal proceedings, he intends to fulfill his obligations to Parliament. For now, he remains focused on the official inquiry into the administrative handling of World Cup preparations under his leadership.
