The Agona West Municipal Assembly has announced a strategic internal revenue collection target of GH₵6 million for the 2027 fiscal year. This objective is part of a broader initiative to enhance the assembly's Internally Generated Fund (IGF), which is critical for funding local infrastructure projects and improving the overall living standards of residents within the municipality.
Municipal Finance Officer Saeed Bashiru provided an update on the assembly's current financial trajectory, noting that the body is currently pursuing a GH₵5 million target for the 2026 fiscal year. According to Bashiru, the assembly has made significant progress, having collected GH₵2,999,204.56 as of the end of September. This performance represents nearly 60 percent of the annual goal, suggesting that the assembly's recent mobilization efforts are yielding results.
To achieve the ambitious GH₵6 million goal set for 2027, the assembly is implementing a series of strategic measures designed to broaden the tax base and improve collection efficiency. Mr. Bashiru emphasized that these measures are essential for ensuring a steady and predictable flow of resources, which will allow the assembly to execute development plans with less reliance on external funding sources. The strategy involves identifying new revenue streams and ensuring that existing billing systems are accurate and transparent.
The drive for increased revenue is expected to provide the Agona West Municipal Assembly with the necessary fiscal capacity to address pressing community needs. Local officials believe that by meeting these financial targets, the assembly will be better positioned to maintain roads, enhance sanitation services, and provide essential educational and health facilities. The focus remains on building a sustainable financial foundation that supports the long-term growth and development of the Agona West municipality.
