Delegates from six African countries gathered in Accra have officially adopted the Accra Youth Communique, a strategic document designed to accelerate the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The adoption took place at the conclusion of the Africa We Want symposium, held from August 19 to 23, 2026. This gathering focused on mobilizing the continent's youth to address pressing regional challenges and contribute actively to Africa's long-term developmental roadmap.
The communique outlines a series of actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing youth participation in governance and promoting intra-African trade. Participants from Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, Liberia, and host nation Ghana reached a consensus on the need for stronger anti-corruption measures and more robust efforts toward social cohesion and cultural preservation. The document serves as a unified voice for young Africans seeking to influence policy and ensure their perspectives are integrated into national and continental strategies.
Organized by the Youth Arise Organization, the symposium provided a platform for international delegates to share unique perspectives on the barriers facing the youth today. Moses Baffour Awuah, the Global CEO of Youth Arise, announced that the organization intends to present the communique to relevant government authorities and international bodies. To ensure the document leads to tangible results, a registry will be established to track the progress and implementation of its various recommendations across the participating countries.
International delegates expressed their commitment to the goals set out during the week-long event, emphasizing the importance of cross-border collaboration. By focusing on the pillars of Agenda 2063, the symposium sought to empower the next generation of leaders to take ownership of the continent’s economic and social transformation. The organizers believe that the Accra Youth Communique will act as a vital reference point for youth-led advocacy in the coming years.
