Accra has secured a prestigious position on the global stage, ranking 18th in Time Out's list of the world's 20 best cities for nightlife for 2026. This recognition highlights the Ghanaian capital's emergence as a premier destination for entertainment, driven by its diverse array of bars, clubs, and live music venues. The ranking, which evaluates cities based on a combination of expert assessments and feedback from over 24,000 residents worldwide, underscores Accra's growing influence as a cultural and musical hub in West Africa.
The city's high ranking is attributed to its excellence in several key areas, most notably affordability, hospitality, and a strong sense of community. According to the data, 62% of local residents surveyed consider the city's nightlife options to be affordable, a significant factor in its accessibility for both locals and visitors. Furthermore, 75% of respondents expressed a deep sense of community within the nightlife scene, reflecting the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that characterizes Accra's social hubs, vibrant nightlife districts, and alternative entertainment venues.
Within the African context, Accra joined Johannesburg—which ranked 7th globally—as one of the top-tier destinations for nighttime culture on the continent. The report specifically praised Accra's established entertainment infrastructure and its ability to offer a rich variety of experiences ranging from high-energy clubs to soulful live music spaces. This global acknowledgment is expected to further boost Ghana's tourism sector, reinforcing the country's reputation as a primary destination for global travelers seeking authentic, vibrant, and welcoming cultural experiences in 2026.
