Ahafo Ano South West Mourns Sudden Death of DCE Abubakar Sedik After Official Engagements

Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, passed away on the evening of Sunday, September 20, 2026. His sudden demise occurred shortly after he returned from a series of high-level official meetings in Kumasi. Sedik, who had served as DCE since 2025, reportedly began complaining of severe bodily pains upon his return to Mankranso. He was rushed to a local hospital but was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly thereafter, sending shockwaves through the district and the local government community.

On the day of his passing, Sedik had been actively participating in stakeholder engagements concerning the Kumasi Kejetia Phase II Redevelopment project. The meetings were attended by several District Chief Executives and led by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga. The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, have both confirmed the loss, praising Sedik for his dedication to public service and his commitment to the development of his constituency.

Beyond his administrative role, Sedik was a significant figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was the party's parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South West in the 2024 general elections and had remained a vocal advocate for his constituents. His tenure as DCE was not without challenges; he recently faced public scrutiny and allegations regarding a proposed demolition of a school facility in Mankranso to make way for a new market, claims which he had categorically denied before his death. He was also involved in a legal dispute regarding the 2024 election results against the NPP’s Elvis Dapaah.

In accordance with Islamic traditions, the late DCE was laid to rest on Monday, September 21, 2026. The funeral service included Salat al-Janazah prayers held at the Mankranso School Park, drawing a large crowd of mourners, including family, friends, NDC supporters, and government officials. During the ceremony, Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene described Sedik as an "exceptional administrator" whose leadership and vision would be sorely missed. To honor Sedik's legacy, the Regional Minister assured residents that all initiated development projects in the district would be completed as planned, maintaining the momentum of the late leader's work.
