An Adabraka District Court has remanded 32-year-old security guard Abraham Newton Awundok into custody following the gruesome murder of his employers, Dr. Jesse Amuah, 80, and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, 64. The double homicide, which occurred at the couple's residence in Asylum Down, Accra, reportedly stemmed from a heated dispute over a GH¢1,500 payment. The suspect now faces two counts of murder after allegedly confessing to the crimes during police interrogations.
Details presented in court revealed that the tragic incident took place on March 23, 2026. According to the prosecution, the disagreement over the outstanding payment escalated when Mrs. Amuah allegedly insulted Awundok. In a fit of rage, the security guard is said to have attacked the elderly couple using various weapons. To conceal the crime, Awundok allegedly deposited the bodies of the victims in a septic tank on the property before fleeing the country to Dubai.
Awundok's attempt to evade justice was short-lived. Following investigative leads, he was apprehended in Dubai and subsequently deported back to Ghana in August 2026 to face trial. During his appearance in court, it was noted that the suspect had already admitted to the killings while in police custody. The discovery of the bodies in the septic tank had earlier shocked the Asylum Down community and raised concerns about the safety of elderly residents.
The presiding magistrate has adjourned the case to September 21, 2026, as the prosecution prepares further evidence for the committal process. The case has highlighted the volatility of domestic labor disputes and the importance of international cooperation in criminal investigations. Awundok remains in prison custody pending the next court hearing, where more details regarding the forensic evidence are expected to be disclosed.
