Four eight-year-old pupils from the School of Islamic Studies have tragically died after being struck by a van in Aboabo, located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The fatal accident occurred when the children were preparing to cross the road following the conclusion of their classes. The deceased have been identified as Juraid Mohammed, Anisah Ibrahim, Fati Muniru, and Raiyan Faisal. They were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, leaving the local community and school in a state of profound grief.
According to eyewitness reports and police statements, the accident involved a Hyundai van that reportedly lost control while descending a slope. The vehicle veered into the group of children who were waiting at the roadside. In addition to the four fatalities, three other pupils sustained various degrees of injury, with two of the children currently reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the van was immediately apprehended and remains in police custody while investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue.
In the wake of the tragedy, the headmaster of the School of Islamic Studies, along with distraught residents and parents, has issued an urgent appeal for the construction of a footbridge in the area. They highlighted the inherent dangers of the road stretch where the school is located, noting that the absence of safe crossing points puts students at constant risk. Local officials have begun assessing the scene, while community leaders demand immediate safety interventions to prevent further loss of life on what they describe as a hazardous section of the roadway.
