Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa pledges travel funds for Javits Frimpong’s mother

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the government of Ghana will fully fund the travel expenses for Doris Adu Gyamfi to attend the funeral of her 15-year-old son, Javits Frimpong, in the United States. This decision follows a significant diplomatic development where U.S. President Donald Trump directed the immediate issuance of a visa to Madam Adu Gyamfi. The facilitation of her travel to New York comes in the wake of the tragic fatal shooting of the teenager, an event that has garnered international attention.

The breakthrough in the visa application process was achieved following an intervention by the Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani. Minister Ablakwa noted that the fast-tracking of the travel documents by the U.S. presidency ensures that the grieving mother will be able to say her final farewell to her son. The Foreign Affairs Ministry emphasized that the Mahama administration is providing technical support to Madam Adu Gyamfi throughout the application process to ensure a smooth transition to the United States.

In addition to covering all travel costs, the Ghanaian government has committed to contributing toward a dignified funeral for Javits Frimpong. Minister Ablakwa expressed the state's deep condolences to the family and reaffirmed the government's dedication to seeking justice for the murdered teenager. He highlighted that Ghanaian authorities are maintaining a collaborative effort with relevant international officials to monitor the ongoing investigation into the shooting.

This support reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens both at home and within the diaspora. As Madam Adu Gyamfi prepares for her journey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the state would continue to provide the necessary logistical and emotional support. The coordination between Ghanaian officials, the New York Mayor’s office, and the U.S. presidency has been cited as a vital factor in addressing the family's needs during this crisis.
