Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has met with a delegation from the Assemblies of God World Congress to coordinate preparations for the church's upcoming 10th Triennial Congress. Scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026, the event will mark the first time the global congress is held on the African continent. The delegation, led by Reverend Stephen Wengam, briefed the Minister on the spiritual and economic significance of the gathering, which is expected to draw thousands of international participants.
During the meeting, Reverend Wengam highlighted the potential benefits for Ghana, noting that the hosting of such a high-profile event would bolster the nation's image and economy. He specifically requested government assistance regarding visa facilitation for international attendees to ensure a smooth entry process for the global congregation. Wengam also underscored the special connection the church shares with the current administration, citing President John Mahama’s personal affiliation with the Assemblies of God as a source of encouragement for the local church.
In response, Mr. Ablakwa pledged the government’s full support for the congress and acknowledged its importance as a historic milestone for both the church and the country. To facilitate effective planning, the Minister announced that officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be appointed to serve on the Local Organising Committee. The meeting concluded with Reverend Wengam presenting a Bible to the Minister as a symbolic reminder of the role of faith in leadership and governance.
