The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially launched the 2026 edition of the "December in GH" initiative. This year’s campaign, themed "Ghana to the World," is designed to showcase the nation's vibrant music, fashion, food, and culture to a global audience. The initiative aims to position Ghana as the premier festive destination on the continent, specifically targeting the Ghanaian diaspora and international tourists to drive tourism growth during the end-of-year period.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Gomashie emphasized that the initiative is intended to go beyond mere celebration, serving as a strategic catalyst for sustainable economic development. She highlighted the potential for the festive season to create lasting opportunities for local businesses within the hospitality and creative sectors. To ensure the programme's success and longevity, the Minister underscored the necessity of prioritizing visitor safety and providing high-quality experiences that uphold Ghana's reputation as a hospitable and secure destination.
A major component of the 2026 calendar is the upcoming African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creativity (A-FESTA), which is scheduled to run from December 9 to 11. The festival is expected to provide a significant platform for local talents to exhibit their work to international visitors, further integrating Ghanaian creativity into the global market. Gomashie encouraged citizens to take pride in their cultural heritage and actively participate in promoting the country's unique offerings throughout the season.
The "December in GH" project continues to be a cornerstone of the government's strategy to bridge the gap between Ghana and the diaspora while boosting the domestic economy. By fostering collaboration between the creative industries and the tourism sector, the ministry hopes to build a robust framework that supports local artisans and service providers, ensuring that the influx of visitors translates into tangible benefits for communities across the country.
