Dr. Abena Nyarkoa Asomaning has launched three new books and held an auction of her original paintings at an event in Accra to raise funds for incarcerated women and youth. The event, titled "In Full Bloom: Art, Words & Legacy," was held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel and served as a fundraiser for the Angel-Zoe Foundation. This foundation, established by Dr. Asomaning, focuses on providing critical support, resources, and reintegration programs for former inmates as they transition back into society.
The three literary works introduced at the event include Women’s Leadership in Africa, The Shrewd You, and Bloom. These books, which are now available on Amazon, explore themes of leadership, personal development, and resilience. Alongside the book launch, an auction of Dr. Asomaning’s original paintings highlighted the intersection of literature and visual art. The proceeds from both the book sales and the art auction are dedicated to the foundation’s creative development initiatives for prisoners and those recently released from custody.
His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, who chaired the ceremony, commended Dr. Asomaning for her long-standing dedication to service and her efforts to give a second chance to those often marginalized by society. The keynote speaker, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie of the Ghana Prisons Service, emphasized the significant role that creativity and culture play in national development. She noted that initiatives focusing on the creative arts provide a valuable outlet for rehabilitation within the correctional system.
Reflecting on her nearly two decades of work with the prison service, Dr. Asomaning expressed her gratitude to the partners and donors who have supported her mission. She underscored the importance of community-building and the need for collective action to help former inmates rebuild their lives and contribute positively to the country. The event combined film screenings, readings, and artistic displays to showcase the impact of the foundation’s work over the years.
