Dr. Abena Nyarkoa Asomaning has launched three new books and held a charity art auction at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra to benefit the Angel-Zoe Foundation. The event, held under the theme 'In Full Bloom: Art, Words and Legacy,' was designed to raise critical funds for the foundation's work in aiding the rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated women and youth back into Ghanaian society. The multi-disciplinary event combined literature and visual arts to highlight the challenges faced by former inmates.
Among the titles introduced to the public was 'Women’s Leadership in Africa,' a work that aligns with Dr. Asomaning's academic and philanthropic focus. The event was chaired by His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, who used the platform to emphasize the vital role that women's leadership and community engagement play in national progress. The auction portion of the evening featured original paintings, with the proceeds earmarked for the foundation's outreach and support programs.
During her keynote address, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted how creativity can serve as a catalyst for national development and social reform. Dr. Asomaning also shared reflections from her twenty years of service in the prison sector, explaining that the transition from incarceration to community life requires robust support systems. She noted that her foundation aims to provide these individuals with the skills and psychological support necessary to lead productive lives after their release.
The launch concluded with a call for more private-sector involvement in social rehabilitation efforts. While the books are now available for purchase on Amazon to reach a global audience, the local launch served as a significant fundraising milestone for the Angel-Zoe Foundation. The funds raised will be used to expand vocational training and support services for women and youth as they navigate the complexities of life after prison.
