How this map works
Anansi reads the reporting behind every story, picks out events such as fires, floods, crashes, protests and outages, and places each one at the town or district the reporting names. A story covered by several outlets counts once. A dot is a town; a ring is a district where no town was named. Stories that name only a region are listed but not drawn.
Counts are stories reported, not incidents, and busy places get more coverage than quiet ones. A place we could not pin down with confidence is left off the map rather than guessed.
Events are read from Anansi News reporting and placed on the map by Anansi. Boundaries: OCHA COD-AB (CC BY-IGO 3.0). Towns: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and Wikidata (CC0).
